EXECUTIVE PRODUCER VIVA ELVIS

STÉPHANE MONGEAU

Known for his great drive and determination, Stéphane Mongeau is joining the ranks of executive production at Cirque du Soleil in January 2009.

“To be an Executive Producer at Cirque du Soleil, you need not only solid experience in management so you can make decisions at critical times, but also artistic flair to understand and support the creative process. You also need to show audacity to oversee and manage the development of several projects at a time and very quickly.” An accomplished leader, Stéphane Mongeau encourages creative fulfilment and achievement while demanding sound management of his productions in order to meet business expectations.

Since being appointed Vice-President of Production in April 2005, Stéphane Mongeau has ensured that creative projects at Cirque du Soleil (LOVE, KOOZA, ZAIA, ZED, Believe and Wintuk) have gone smoothly and according to plan. He also oversaw a complete restructuring of the Production Services departments to meet the standards established for quality and competitiveness. As he puts it, “the training studios and technical service have become consultants that look after our technical records, the costume design units were able to deliver thousands of quality costumes to various countries and/or continents at once, and the theatre projects people are known as being avant-garde in their approach as custodians of the design and construction of theatres.”

Stéphane Mongeau has been working in show business for over 20 years. He started his impressive journey as a student at the National Theatre School of Canada. He has since directed, managed and overseen no less than 60 productions and is credited for as many lighting concepts. While rooted first and foremost in the theatre, his vision has also been applied to opera, variety and dance performances. He also worked on the TV production La soirée des Masques in 2000.

Before joining Cirque as Production Manager in 2000 and bringing us Varekai (2002) and KÀ (2004), he held a series of theatre positions, including production manager, technical director and lighting designer. He also taught at the National Theatre School of Canada from 1994 to 1998. Before starting at Cirque, Stéphane had the privilege of working with several notable stage directors, including Robert Lepage, Fernand Rainville, Dominic Champagne, Paul Buissonneau, Denise Filiatreault, Lorraine Pintal and Alexis Martin.

Despite his jam-packed schedule, Stéphane Mongeau remains very involved in the cultural scene and has been contributing to the success of MU, a non-profit organization, as a member of the board of directors since 2006. MU has received several national awards over the years, including as winner of the social economy enterprise of the year at the 2008 Concours Québécois en Entreprenariat (Quebec Entrepreneurship Contest).

Stéphane Mongeau has also served on the board of directors of the Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental (NTE) since 2008.
